When to replace

When a MacBook screen needs replacing

Cracked panel

Cracks or a spread-out image after an impact or after closing the lid with an object on the keyboard.

Vertical stripes and artefacts

Stripes, flickering or artefacts appear across the image — a damaged panel or cable.

Staingate — coating peeling off

The anti-reflective coating peels off into “stains”, typical of Retina models.

Dark display with backlight

The image is very dark even though the MacBook is running — a backlight fault.

Flexgate — stripe at the bottom edge

The backlight drops out when the lid is opened, typical of some MacBook Pro models.

How the process works

How a screen replacement goes

  1. Diagnostics. We check whether it is the panel, the backlight or the cable, and what the most sensible solution is. Diagnostics is free if you have the repair done with us.
  2. Price upfront. We tell you the price for your model before the repair. We do nothing until you approve it.
  3. Replacement. Depending on the fault we replace the whole lid assembly or just the panel — we advise the cheaper option if there is one.
  4. Test. We check brightness, colours, the ambient light sensor and the camera in the lid.
  5. Your data stays. Replacing the screen does not touch the drive.

Models we repair

Air, Pro and Retina

We replace screens on the MacBook Air (Intel and M1, M2, M3), MacBook Pro 13", 14", 15", 16" (Intel and Apple Silicon) and MacBook Pro Retina. With staingate and flexgate we know the typical weak spots of each model.

MacBooks have the display as a bonded unit, so the glass alone is replaced only exceptionally — usually it is the whole panel or lid. We also know the typical model faults: staingate (coating peeling off) on Retina and flexgate (backlight dropping out) on some MacBook Pro models.

Frequently asked questions

What you ask most often

How long does a MacBook screen replacement take?

Usually within 24–48 hours depending on the model and panel availability.

What is staingate?

Peeling of the anti-reflective coating on Retina displays. It is solved by replacing the panel or lid — we advise what is worthwhile.

Can only the glass be replaced, or the whole display?

On MacBooks the display is a bonded unit, so usually the whole panel or lid is replaced. We always look for the most sensible option price-wise.

Will I lose my data?

No, replacing the screen does not touch the drive.

Do you also do models with the M1, M2, M3 chip?

Yes, we service both Intel and Apple Silicon MacBooks.

Is your MacBook display damaged?

We do not charge for diagnostics if we carry out the repair — even if the device cannot be repaired. If you decline the repair, diagnostics costs €39 incl. VAT.
